CHAPTER - I


Have you ever seen a bangle shop? I hope every one of us have seen at least once in our life. Specially the glass bangles. Have you noticed the colours and their reflection when the light falls on them? Or have you ever tried to look at them with one eye closed. Doesn’t it look amazing? I like them very much. The dazzling colours and the glittering ornate bangles, it’s awesome. These glass bangles are originally famous in Lucknow, Rajasthan and Gujarat. But nowadays, these are also found in Kolkata in huge variations. Actually there’s almost nothing which cannot be found in Kolkata (which is found in India). Bangles are not only the sign of married lady’s but also attract the heart of almost all girls.
Charmis was a girl who was one of them having great affinity towards glass bangles. Though she was a Christian girl but spending her 18 years in Kolkata and studying in La Martiner’s Girls High School had left a big influence on her. She was a very delicate, soft spoken girl. Not a usual La Mart, with an outspoken confident smart girl with a different air of attitude. Charmis had a small circle of friends. Everybody in her group dominated her and tried to convert her in their traits. But Charmis was able to maintain her innocence and simple mentality. After her twelfth standard she decided to study art and had a great urge to join the National Arts Academy.
But hardly people get what they want. It’s the greatest truth of our lives. But as far as Charmis is concerned she was a luckier one. She got admission in her desired place. She had the best family a girl can expect. A father who was like her best boy friend and mother the best girl friend. She hardly required any other friends in her life. Then the readers might be thinking that what I would write about Charmis. Actually this is not the story of a happy girl or another story of a protected delicate girl who never saw the hardness of society and suddenly comes in face to face with the reality. Actually this is not a story; this is something which I felt suddenly seeing my glass bangles in my dressing table.
